Sun Mountain Ranch
“unique features”
Sun Mountain Ranch “Bunkhouse” has some features that are not usually encountered in commercial
Vacation Rentals or Rental Cabins / Resorts. When we built our Bunkhouse it was for our own familiesto use and the thought of renting it had not occurred to us at that time. Things change, years go by, kids grow up and move away, they have careers and families of their own and it is hard to find the time to all get together. The “Bunkhouse” was lonely, it was sad to see it not being brought to life by laughing children and families making memories. That's when it occurred to us that someone should be using it. That is also when it occurred to us that those things we had gotten used to and just accepted as part of the adventure could be sort of a surprise to some of our guests. So, here are a few things you should know about so there are no surprises!
1) Our sleeping arrangements are Semi-Private. It is a large house and the sleeping areas are well
spaced and are placed in quiet out of the way places with privacy screens. Most of our guests
are either good friends or family and are already comfortable with each other. Our photos on
our web page may illustrate it better than I have.
2) Our stairs going up are on the outside of the house (weird, I know). The porch leading to the
stairs is covered and there is a balcony at the top for star gazing one last time before going
in for the night. In the Summer, it is a pleasant trip but you will want to have a warm shirt or
light jacket for cool mornings. In the Winter you may need to keep the stairs cleared of snow or
ice if it snows while you are there. We provide shovel and ice-melt “stuff”
3) Our primary source of heat is our large rock fireplace., It does a very good job, but it does
require someone to keep adding firewood during the night. In the Summer it is rarely
needed. We provide all the firewood you can use.
4) Because we are so close to Crater Lake National Park, we are fairly remote. There are no
grocery stores, restaurants or gas stations close by. During the Summer there are a few
Campground stores open to buy forgotten items or something you ran out of and of course
Crater Lake has a cafe and restaurant. In the Winter only the café is open at Crater Lake.
We recommend buying your groceries before you arrive.
We realize that these features may not be suitable for everyone, but hope that you will just
consider them as part of the Sun Mountain Ranch “Bunkhouse” adventure!
